Hundreds of bodies were transferred to the families days, months or even years after the fact, and when the bodies were sent back, they were missing vital internal organs. Birth of a settlement
22 May 2009, by Joseph Dana, Mairav ZonszeinHilltop 26 is the name of an illegal settlement outpost atop a tranquil, windswept hill just outside Kiryat Arba, in the southern West Bank. From its top, one can see the red roofs of the Jewish settlement to the south and, in the distance, the outskirts of the holy city of Hebron. Over the past two months, adolescent settlers from Kiryat Arba have built a structure atop Hilltop 26 that they use as a clubhouse for eating, studying and hanging out. Although Hilltop 26 was dismantled in 1999, (…) -
Barak Approves More Settlement Units Before Heading To Talk “Peace” in Washington
30 June 2009Hours before he took off to Washington for talks with the US administration on peace and settlements, Israeli Army Minister, Ehud Barak, approved the construction of a new settlement in the so-called Benyamin region. The approval came as part of a deal with the settlers who were evacuated from the illegal Migron settlement outpost. The settlers would move into a new settlement of 250 houses after they evacuate their outpost built on privately owned Palestinian land. Migron is inhibited (…) -
What about the Arabs’ natural growth?
2 July 2009, by Akiva EldarIt seems that never before has so much been written and said about the "natural growth" of so few. The issue of construction in the West Bank settlements for the sake of the future generation is threatening to sabotage Israel’s relations with the U.S., or undermine Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s relations with the settlers and their representatives in the Likud and Israel’s right wing. Maybe it is no coincidence that the government spokespeople insist on describing the homes for "sons (…) -
"Certaines (…) -
Devouring Jerusalem
1 May 2009, by Khalid AmayrehIn its increasingly rabid efforts to consolidate control of traditionally Arab-East Jerusalem, Israel this week moved to suppress Palestinian cultural activities associated with the city being declared the capital of Arab culture for 2009. On 19 March heavily armed paramilitary police violently dispersed a meeting at the Ambassador Hotel in East Jerusalem, confiscating posters, leaflets, placards and computers. Israeli police also raided schools, social clubs and community centres to (…)
