  أفقدت الهجرة لبنان - المتصرفية ربع سكانه (عيساوي، ١٩٦٦: ٢٦٩)، وقتلت المجاعة خلال الحرب العالمية الأولى ٤١٪ من سكان المتصرفية وولاية بيروت (أجاي، ١٩٦٤: ٤٣٢)، وتسبّب الاستقلال بـ«هجرة داخلية» لأبناء الريف، تحوّلت إلى خارجية، مثلت ٣٠٪ من مجمل سكان لبنان (وزارة التصميم، ١٩٧٢: ٧٥). ثم جاءت الحرب الأهلية وتسبّبت بهجرة نهائية لـ٤٠٪ من شعب لبنان (لبكي، ١٩٩٢: ٦٠٩). وبعد الحرب هاجر ثلث القوى العاملة اللبنانية خلال أقل من عقدين (كسباريان، ٢٠٠٩: ٥). هذه تركة مرعبة، المسؤول عنها نخبة سياسية سِمتها (…)

  1. Crying Wolf So many people have circulated so many warnings of the forthcoming US-Israeli attack on Iran that it is hard to ignore them. A piece written by a few ex-spooks warning of a new round of war is one of these messages. In our view, spooks, ex or not, are not the most reliable people, and the CIA is not the best reference.
