Columnist in the Lebanese daily An Nahar and contemporary history professor at the St Joseph University. He published: La Guerre du Liban (Karthala, 1994); Histoire de Beyrouth (Fayard, 2003); Considérations sur le malheur arabe (Actes Sud / Sindbad, 2004), and with the collaboration of Farouk Mardam-Bey, Itinéraires de Paris à Jéusalem - La France et le conflit israélo-arabe (2 volumes, Institut des études palestiniennes, 1992-1993). He was assassinated on the 2nd of June 2005 in a car bomb in Beirut.
